Lyric Pieces

  • Soapbox Gallery 636 Dean Street Brooklyn, NY, 11238 United States (map)

Sarah M Silverman is a pianist, singer and creator of music that is rooted in classical and jazz traditions yet flows freely beyond the boundaries of genre. She is drawn to music and practices that unlock the creative spirit, inspire free exploration and deep emotional connection.

In recognition of her song cycle Lyric Pieces, Sarah was awarded an “Explore & Create” grant from the Canada Council For The Arts. This grant funded Sarah's collaboration with Grammy Award winning producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Luciana Souza). Together they recorded Lyric Pieces, an innovative re-imagining of the music of Edvard Grieg. Lyric Pieces intertwines Sarah's voice, lyrics and arrangements with Grieg's music and will be released by Adhyaropa Records on June 16.

Sarah is a native of Toronto, Canada. She studied classical piano at the Glenn Gould School of Music in Toronto (BMus), and the Manhattan School of Music in New York (MMus). While in New York she also studied Somatic Voicework with Jeanie Lovetri and was mentored by Grammy Award winning singer Luciana Souza, and pianist Bruce Barth. Sarah made her Broadway debut as a pianist for the Tony Award winning show In The Heights, and went on to become a pianist for Disney's Mary Poppins. Currently Sarah lives with her family in Los Angeles.
